Sarruma with De Montfort Uni, Leicester Sarruma is collaborating with De Montfort University right here in Leicester, thanks to Helen Burbidge, the module leader for the Pattern Technology Course in the Fashion & Textile Department. We've been invited into the university to do a presentation to the students and set a design brief! We are looking at developing casual clothing and profession racewear for mountain bikers, and we hope to get the best out of the creativity of the students in this project. The best ones will be put into production whcih will earn the designer a commission, and there may be more work experience available with Sarruma afterwards for everyone who does well with this project. We have prepared a design brief for the students. You can download this online by clicking on this link: DMU DESIGN BRIEF Thinking of going to University? Like what you have read about DMU? VISIT TO DMU - 12TH OCTOBER 2007 After the early morning start, with an uneasy nervous feeling inside... I didn't think I'd be sitting here this evening as chuffed as I am now! We came out each with a massive grin...it went really well! Everyone was armed with sketchbooks of ideas and questions for us. We ended up being in the University for near enough 2 hours and the whole time we were there we spoke about clothing, extreme sports and alternative lifestyles, my cup of tea..and everyone else's there too it would seem! So to the actual brief... From what we can tell it was pretty well received and caught the attention of most people. In two months time we will have a great range of technical and casual clothing for both sexes that will be unique to Sarruma. The students can customise them further by putting their names somewhere on the finished garment to promote their own design careers. As we said earlier, we're all in this together. So in a nutshell, today we met an awesome group of people who are committed to the cause. So, watch this space, we will be going into the university between now and Judgement Day (14th Dec) to see how things are progressing and to answer any further questions. A big thanks to Helen for setting the whole event up. |
